HD? Or 3G?

I'm thinking the proliferation of 3G phones will arrive earlier than the prevalence of HD plasma screens in HDB land. Because infrastructure expansion and consumer conversion will be so much easier. A 25 year old yuppie is more likely to buy a SGD$500 3G phone, and pay a reasonable monthly fee for 3G entertainment, rather than purchase a SGD$5000 plasma TV to watch Mark Lee's face in Hi-Def sharpness....right? (Not that there is anything wrong with Mister Lee's face in HD...I'm just saying...)

So, anyway, this means there should be an earlier (and perhaps greater) demand for "Small Screen Entertainment" in Singapore, isn't it? Why aren't more SG production/media companies thinking about/moving towards 3G content development?

(one factor is of course the sloooooow monolithic movements of our main Telcos...)

Current DV technology packs more than enough pixels to deliver sharp visuals to handphone screens, so this means you can choose to avoid the uncertain (and costly) Hi-Def upgrade, and instead, focus on what sort of mobile phone entertainment to create, right?

SMALL, instead of BIG;
Fun, Intriguing close-ups, instead of Oh-this-will-look-damn-small-on-my-Nokia-Shots...

3G content development does seem like sound business logic for production companies that only have a few DV cameras and FCP-stations in their office. Why is MDA so eager to find a "Hi-Def Star" when we should really be looking for 3G gravitas?

Is it because we are using lame GSM instead of CDMA?
